Introduction
Ms. Lavonne Carroll is the President and CEO for MAMBEC (Martial Art Mind Body Education Centre) Inc. 2003 (focused on Anti-Bullying) designed to help youth develop confidence and positive conflict resolution skills. She began her own Martial Art practice in 1997 and quickly fell in love with the balance of Physical Strength and Mental Discipline that it taught her. The inspiration for MAMBEC Martial Art came in the early 2000s when Ms. Carroll found that her children had been struggling with the effects of bullying, anger issues, and social isolation at school.
Reminded of her own Martial Art journey and the personal growth that it had encouraged, Ms. Carroll set out to create a program that would give children the same skills: the confidence that comes from discipline and physical strength, and the resources to communicate and develop nonviolent conflict resolution skills. Opened in 2003, MAMBEC Martial Art is a Contemporary Martial Art Centre that includes teaching fundamentals of Body Mechanics applicable to most Martial Art Disciplines alongside a comprehensive Anti-Bullying and critical thinking curriculum. Ms. Carroll is proud to have designed a Specialty Program that allows youth the opportunity to grow without the focus on group competition but rather inner competition to do better (self-improvement). Ms. Carroll holds a MAMBEC Black Belt and since 2003, MAMBEC Martial Art and all students are members of Karate Nova Scotia in affiliation with Sport Nova Scotia.
Ms. Carroll has embedded the MAMBEC Martial Art'/Life Skills offerings from her core Specialty Program in the Weekend/Evening Specialty Program, MAMBEC Before/After School Specialty Program, Summer/March Break/In-Service Specialty Camps and Specialty Birthday Parties. Currently, Ms. Carroll is writing a series of books to better support the MAMBEC Martial Art Philosophy and Curriculum. She attributes her success to hard work and commitment. Ms. Carroll looks forward to the continued growth of her Centre and hopes to expand the core MAMBEC Program into other disciplines including Education in the coming years.
